Did America Avoid the Future of Demolition Man?

Doing observation of The Running Man, I pointed that you can’t do a fake video in commercial break, but since that such thing isn’t impossible anymore though AI can’t make a realistic image. This film is fantastic in seeing what will thirty years later. And there is other one movie that impresses in vision of future. That is Demolition Man.

The future in films, books and computer games usually in darkness and decline. Demolition Man has a bright one, but, as could see, the presented way of life is forceful. Political correctness was in enhancement in time of filming. Daniel Waters who was involved in rewriting and inserted a lot of future things said that he didn’t intend to do anything with research how political correctness will go deep, all that was done for fun. But Demolition Man turned out a demonstration of true future.

It amazes that a movie hadn’t initial introduction showing Los Angeles deepen in crimes, which caused decay including flaming the Hollywood sign. The scriptwriter Fred Dekker, whose name wasn’t put in credits, created that scene and savvy explained its presence, “If you don’t show Kansas. Oz isn’t all that special.” He wanted to show main heroes Sergeant John Spartan (played by Sylvester Stallone) and crime leader Simon Phoenix (whom Wesley Snipes performed) in their natural environment in demonstrated Los Angeles, which takes a set in 1996. They use benevolent phrases in conversation, which include a revealing as propagandist “be well”. Such friendly approach are eerie became part of reality as that can see in American corporations and different organizations who are looking for feelings of all people. As Huxley will say it’s a “society of peace, love and understanding”.

I hadn’t a favor to design of cars back then but these tiny lights entered in reality now in new all-alike models, which only haven’t lifting doors, but who knows what will happen in 2032.

The world of San Angeles drives electrocars where a function of autodriving exists and you can change regimes via using voice. All that implements Tesla in actuality, which has high sales.

Lenina Huxley has a meeting with captain of San Angeles George Earle (Bob Gunton) who reprimands her for “disheartening and distressing comments”, which she had in the morning conversation with the warden. However, as meticulously exists in reality, she didn’t say anything as police chief characterized. Her words were “Does is tedium continue?” and “I find this lack of stimulus to be truly disappointing.” The chief Earle considers that she sets a bad example for all department by her behavior. Huxley is fascinated by XXth century and she possess stuff, which considered as disturbing and therefore it’s illegal as a joke box. It looks preposterous, but a trigger warning about tension and frightening moments in films and theatre exist now.

Defrosted Simon Phoenix somehow knows a password to handcuffs, which is another not impossible thing, but I didn’t hear that such technology in using. Later, a policemen Alfredo Garcia (Benjamin Bratt) says no death in the last sixteen years. In actuality, homicide didn’t gone.

The computer identifies corpses and life statuses in that facility. That technology doesn’t exist, but it’s implementation is no less than possible.

Huxley comes with an idea, in that helpless police department, to track person’s car, which Phoenix stole. Nothing is fictional with that too, as police automobiles have installed microchip as that any transport can do that.

Simon arrives on a little three-wheeled car, which is a real model. If take accent on design, such futuristic vehicles exist now. A movie’s villain comes to a man who speaks with a chat machine complaining he is unhappy. The society of Demolition Man is already reality. Weak people with infantile behavior who are looking for encourage, complain on nothing and these children of flowers don’t know how do simple things as hanging a picture on a wall. A small difference with reality is that person can speak on his unhappiness with AI at home. Simon pushes that man away, causing fasting away of nearby people. A harassed person apologizes before abandoning a place.

Phoenix’s two-time swearing leads to arrival of police. Law enforcers don’t know how to make arrest and one of them, who operates that, asks a portable computer. It’s close to reality through using of smartphone, but police still know in 2025 how to put cuffs. The antagonist easily neutralizes of all cops as one of them gets hit by electrified metal sticks appearing from the wall, which came out through Snipes’ character hacking. Not much for unusual in that thing, but it has no purpose. All department shocked. Erwin says that they aren’t trained to handle with such violence, which didn’t disappear in actuality and I think it willn’t in 2032.

Then Simon does bullying with a camera, which, all of them make a sound record. No a complex thing since appearance of video record device. Such cameras present.

A narration moves into a corporate building of Dr. Raymond Cocteau (Nigel Hawthorne), a man who is the author of political correct society and a leader whom people obey. He keeps a video conference, which is a real thing now as it occurs via Zoom or Skype on one big screen. That idea in Demolition Man presented bulky, as it usually occurs in movies looking into future, where every person has an individual monitor.

Buildings have a little difference and clothes aren’t kimono-kind in actuality, but all of them have common tasteless as well as same about hairs. However, these aspects in Demolition Man have a slight fancy, which reality hasn’t.

A solution of fighting against Phoenix was discovered in defrosting of a man who arrested him. Captain Earle approves but he doesn’t like John Spartan and calls him very soon as a “muscle-bound grotesque”. For the last years, political correct followers say something alike about such people with great body physics and independent thinking including not mincing words, but they’re minus zero inventive in characterization of such men today.

Spartan scratches his hand realizing a microchip inserted under his skin, an item tracking people and allow to make all transactions whereas a using currency is credits, as it usually like to use in fantastic movies. I don’t think that US dollar will gone while physical payment in stepping away as American metro cancels physical acceptance to the end of this year, but I don’t think that banknotes will disappear to that time. The microchip is already real and there are corporation where workers inserted in their skins and use for passage and all other transactions. I never liked when humans install that thing in animals, because it’s invasion in your privacy. I think that such change willn’t come, because it could do only a despotic country.

The society of Demolition Man relies on machines in searching of answers and solutions as it does the police captain in asking computer to make scenarios of what Phoenix will do the next. That you already exists since appearance of AI in reality. Spartan, as same in actuality, already says that machine is wrong and he says an obvious thing what actual villain will do.

Spartan continues to experience what is actually a horrid future recognizing on popularity of commercial songs presented as retro. It’s unlikely will realize, but greyness in contemporary music world is already real.

Since guns became forbidden in the world of Demolition Man, their place became only in a museum. It was so close in reality. The Democrats, when they were in majority, did steps to cancelation of the Second Amendment in their striving to take full control.

Phoenix detects a gun calling a magnetic accelerator working on electromagnetic accumulator and it has 700 rounds. You need to wait “2.6 minutes” when it will ready to using. Such weapon would be effective, but it still isn’t invented.

Spartan comes in the museum alone and has only a baton, which neutralizes taking out of conscience – that electrified thing doesn’t exist. However, he picks up some weapons in his shooting with Phoenix. It ends that the villain escapes.

Captain hasn’t other idea than wait when a map will get another red point, which will disclose Simon activity. Spartan sarcastically says “great plan!”, but everybody accepts his words literally. It’s real that people in despotic and primitive societies don’t understand sarcasm. Therefore, such reaction from political correct people, but these men and women in their created behavior can offend a person and don’t be aware of that (same in aforementioned societies, which common is that all them are evil). This can notice in Demolition Man in existence of undisclosed cynicism and insult. Erwin derision of Spartan that he doesn’t know how to use three seashells, chief Earle rude speaking with protagonist about inserting of microchip and his waiting of another “death, murder, kill”.

Another shock for John Spartan was recognizing that Arnold Schwarzenegger was a president of the United States, which he became thankfully to 61th Amendment when Huxley said that visited The Schwarzenegger Presidential Library. Arnie tried to make change for becoming a leader of America, but he didn’t succeed in going through all that bureaucracy. His fame didn’t work in contrast that Lenina said. About amendments, there are still twenty-seven and it should happen an upside-down of government for reach sixty-first as that happened in Demolition Man, but I dare to say, it wouldn’t occur. Biden administration and the Congress in Democratic majority wanted changes, but changed of the Constitution hadn’t a place.

Spartan and Huxley were invited by Dr. Cocteau in Taco Bell (Pizza Hut in European version, because initial place isn’t known outside of the USA.). Protagonist’s partner explains it’s venue is a winner of the Franchise Wars. As can see, a law about monopoly doesn’t exist anymore. San Angeles must be have a peculiar economy. However, that thing usually works on having choice.

A fast food venue, which must be an expensive place, as can see a childish reaction of Huxley on invitation, contains a molecular kitchen whereas whole food is vegetarian in that future. Everything that is part of nowadays, but, fortunately, you still have a choice in 2025.

That meeting turns that John doesn’t keep himself in words and opens in lovely slamming speech that doc’s created political correct standards causes damage. These words match for say about what was going no so far before.

Their supper violates by invasion of outcast people who live underground. Spartan comes to action. Huxley finds his beating of people who forced to steal food as funny, but the lead character points on her not awareness.

After that incident, heroes come to Huxley’s apartments, which can control through voice as switching on and off the light. One more of became true. A lead heroine asks for having sex with Spartan and he accepts, but finds out that it was offers of doing it in virtual reality. Terribly to say, but such thing invented, but a device covers your eyes, it didn’t went that you put a helmet which doesn’t close your vision and that you just need to close your eyes and see your partner. Furthermore, two people don’t do between each other, you meet a person, which a program has.

Spartan gets a new awful fact that real sex is forbidden after AIDS and other fictional pandemics NRS and UBT. You can’t even do kisses. A reproduction of kids only can do an authorized medical personnel. There was only COVID happened in reality, which hadn’t a basis of promiscuous society. Nothing of that is banned, but some degradation technology appeared, which is a little thing helping a spermatozoid to move to uterus.

I think it was still for fun, but let accept that violators in that behavior exist as Spartan gets a call, which strangely doesn’t need to turn on, in which he sees a naked woman who pressed a wrong number.

Everywhere went digital as movie theater don’t get box with reels and a flick transfers them virtually, but disks still present. While in this feature, people use a little laser disk, which in two storeys for watch a camera surveillance video.

Sometimes Phoenix says right. He pronounces “You can’t take away people’s right to be assholes” to Dr. Cocteau before asking his subordinate to kill him. That will shock Huxley and everybody by asking what we will do now, a typical question in totalitarian countries where a ruler presented as a deity. However, Lenina will understand what is right as a necessity of violence.

The villain wants to defrost everybody. He discovers a real criminal Jeffrey Dahmer among convicted. However, this person was beaten to death by inmate in 1994. Spartan makes a lone invasion of the cryo prison and has the last fight with Simon Phoenix, who uses a freeze gun, which I don’t think will come in seven years. Ultimately, John breaks a rod, which covers his opponent in ice, and it leads that the protagonist implements his promise in their 1996 meeting.

No less a monumental lovely scene in the ending where John Spartan says Cocteau’s society to get dirty whereas outcast’s people to get clean. As always, you must search for the golden middle. His words find approval of both sides. Then the main hero meets with Lenina Huxley to whom shows a beauty of physical contact. She likes it and initiates that act by herself. A startling scene. After that, John Spartan says to her “I think, we’ll like the future.” Perhaps, the best comparison with reality is the victory in the last presidential election, which put political correctness to end. I can’t know how it will in the future, but political correctness never could survive as can see that companies tried to instill it, and it had financial catastrophes, which still carrying on or that caused the closure of their business. I only dare to say, it’s unlikely that political correctness will return after all these losing the money. Therefore, the future didn’t turn out into political correct world. Nevertheless, despite on similarities, which future I’d choose. I take the vision of Demolition Man, because technological devices are prettier in design and all vices are defeated by destroying makers of them.
