How were Turtles good?

I saw Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1987-1996) on VHS cassettes what was one opportunity to know on four wonderful ninjas. I many times spent a day for watch a whole cassette with vast quantity of episodes and get rapture as always. Eventually I had (I always have) three VHS-cassettes with chaotic order in episodes, as I revealed, contain almost the first season, mostly from the second season and a little bit of the third season. There wasn’t a data base and it would be hard to find all episodes back then, which are 193, as I can know in few actions on computer now. Today, I can get access without leaving a house. Similar to happened many times with me before, I thought on having this access and decided to watch them all.

Introduction returned a lovable excitement with a title song, which sounds were wishful for chanting. Beginning of watching was with catching of adoring zeitgeist of eighties. That another world, those technologies, it’s design and sane society. Show did come back of that experienced pleasure I had then. I was recalling seen episodes. Moreover, I was discovering more. A common plot had interesting. Forceful allies and foes of turtles Shredder and Craig changing in dependence on each other. The first season, which introduces personages, shows dominance of Shredder with his Foot Clan and Crang should give technologies. The second season situates for antagonists in Dimension X and takes vice versa. Craig with army of Rock Soldiers decides which technologies give to Shredder whom he sent on the Earth and the last almost in loneliness elaborates plans against turtles. Two villains dislike each other and sometimes can do for disrupt plan of other.

Of all turtles, Michelangelo was my favorite without special reason. I hadn’t preference in watching now, but Michelangelo became my likeable protagonist again due to that he mostly saves everybody and finds solutions despite I am not big fan of street type of people, dude.

There are episodes demonstrate society who doesn’t accept those who are not of their kind and want to destroy them without wish to make a contact. Splinter, whom incident converted into a rat, doesn’t want to return in human-being after got temporarily, as it will reveal, that opportunity. The twentieth episode “Turtles on Trial” is more actual today then it was in September 1989. A reporter of popular show, in which he insults auditorium, does slandering without evidence statements on turtles. His words turn people to attack four heroes despite they just prevented a crime and did tiding up criminals on their eyes. One of turtles does precisely comparison these people with “animals”. The best of “Turtles on Trial” in the end when reporter says truth on media and why he does this. How truly it sounds with nowadays journalists on whom want to ask about existence of morality in them.

Other look I’ve got on a news correspondent and turtles’ friend April O’Neal and it was lost of sympathy with heavy feeling. She helps, does objective image to protagonists and rescues turtles by necessity while her presence on place of action does constant demonstration of typical in her occupancy. April in excitement on seeing of what for her is material for news report. She says it in arrival from other dimension forces who are going to conquer a planet and a boy who can be killed by moving pendulum. April complains on broken camera by a robot from a future who destroys everything around and when Splinter was just kidnapped. Abduction of Donatello by aliens for April in her reasoning it’s a story, which will save her job. Her obsession to catch a good material on camera instead to help does preceding to contemporary cynicism when everybody can be a cameraman.

Five episodes in the first season, devil dozen in the second when forty-seven were in the third. Vast quantity did downslide to quality. Evince of potboiler in screenplays like turtles accidentally buys a magic sword in antique shop for gift to their sensei when Shredder with his crew accurately comes after them for same item. An episode concludes with sudden arrival of antique (!) aliens from other dimension who steal this sword. Many bizarre extraterrestrial life form will in coming after that thirty-first episode in show what began in “Burne’s Blues”, the twenty-fifth episode, where residents of saucer have mask of classic grey men behind of them hiding images of Elvis. Perhaps, I would like that experience. Nevertheless, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was a joke and mocking on itself to these episodes like one of four heroes recalls an item “from the sixth episode”, somebody does warning on don’t repeat it at home, Michelangelo on playing theme in action in background comments on liking of it. I presume, as I knew, these were parts of ad-libs by actors, which should were leave and be in videos with bloopers.

View on this aspect in other show. Original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is serious comics and it’s a disrespect to their authors Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird by such approach, which, moreover, took an absolute contrast in perception by how it began. The Tick (1994-1996), which also based on comics, is a parody on superheroes. A cartoon show implements it in all three season in thirty-six episodes, which saves it’s primal magnificence in sneering on superheroes (and not only.) and never let a flaw. Success in that it was created by The Tick’s author Ben Edlund.

Deterioration was progressing in every aspect. Scriptwriters began to evade in make reasonable tying of parallel lines. Misfires were occurring about characters. Irma doesn’t recognize Shredder and changes loveable view on turtles. Villains with inventive ideas on taking the world was changing on ridiculous as Shredder used a love potion on turtles. I was getting disgust in listening April’s sick devotion to career. Sometimes Splinter said trivialities, but he was all right as it will with him in future. The thirty-eight episode with a tourist alien (that’s enough.) did show unbearable for watching. Three more episodes and I went in learning and jumping with clicking. I remember how I liked to see in the fourteen episode “Splinter No More” on VHS where turtles had fight with other villain in a monster from other dimension instead of constant Shredder and Crang. Show started with structured stories and changing on one-shots was with one common repetitive structure. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles didn’t develop. I guessed when a certain melody will start. Villains in new plan on the world conquering get from April’s report, which turtles willn’t make to realize and much contribution many times do incompetent Shredder’s henchmen Bebop and Rocksteady. I interested in how many times April was a damsel in distress. Same personages are participating in each episode, I frequently heard exclamation “story of the year!” in scene with journalist of Channel 6 and many times climax was with a funny sequence. No development movement in common as Technodrome relocates in places from season to season. Action in the seventh season went in Europe through the same screenplay formula.

View on this aspect in other show. Twenty years ago, I was watching Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! (1969-1970) with easiness despite I didn’t find this show as stunning. Then I didn’t understand why show has a name of character who isn’t so important and always does running away from a fake, as always it will reveal, monster. Initially one formula couldn’t keep me after the first episode in the last September. Sneaking on territory, running away and finding out a murderer who was obvious long before.

It’s a perpetual battle of two sides. Shredder, who many times demonstrates that he can defeat all Turtles together, always prefers to escape after failure. Turtles never intend on finishing with nemesis. They kill only robots when in relation to creatures in flash and blood do depriving of weapon. Danger, in which turtles got, many times has saving by accident, which was a factor in informing of new plan of evildoers. I had a thought that screenplays were of what came on mind first. Shredder and Crang could return for crystal in the dinosaur land, which reminded the Lost World. I didn’t see homages in grabbing ideas from films and books anymore. Appearance of new and usually interesting villains had happening, but it was in already that fallen state of show. There were villains in my view for whom required increasing in coming quantity as a favorite pair of mutants Tokka and Rahzar who were in one episode and, moreover, they just ran away in the end.

Watching of it’s show now caused me to speak in a villain voice as, for example, in cooking “I need a little of dill for complete of my omelet” and then goes mad laughing. However, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles did in multiple times a wrong introduction in personages. Casey Jones came and began to irritate in his Dirty Harry parodying. His presence place was forceful as it can see by fact that creators of comics asked to put him. They wanted a dark approach to show, which is similar to their original. It was the eighties when cartoon TV shows didn’t use violence what was before in decades. There were lasers instead bullets. It was making for evasion of traumatize children.

If Scandinavian children listen fairytales with sad ending while American kids never get such stories and were shocked in death of main personage Optimus Prime in full-length Transformers. Many of them couldn’t accept that he really passed away. Of course, it depends on person himself. Somebody can watch on bloodshed in child age when some in adult age doesn’t like such scenes. Then was a time when was reasoning that violence gives a negative influence on children while adults can be susceptible as twenty-five death incidents of Russian roulette had a place due to watching The Deer Hunter. I was writing examples that incidents can happen by innocent thing such The Catcher in the Rye and Helter Skelter. I believe, it depends on personal perception. A lot of tremendous shows of the forties and the fifties as Tom and Jerry, Looney Tunes, Droopy and Tex Avery’s cartoons contain a sadistic violent humor. I never heard that anybody did something resembling. Additionally, America didn’t know on school shooting from savvy people until the end of the nineties. No notoriety record was made by Jonny Quest (1964-1965). It contains shooting from firearms and multiple human corpses. The most important it has captivating stories. Doctor Zin who is a nemesis of team and only show’s villain, who appears more than once, does it occasionally and like a classic Han malevolent doesn’t make a straight involvement in his plans.

The eighth and followed two seasons took mood, which underlined a dark red sky. The middle of the nineties gave tendencies of big quantity of shows in adding of such themes. There I resumed full watching. It was the one-hundred seventies episode. No followed intro was superior of the first one. This one had outside combination with film and rearranging of theme spoiled likeable. Playing pieces of it in episodes were better and didn’t remind on initial. Also that changing did wonderful for show. I didn’t listen known in expectable places. New design of turtles looked rude for little time until became acceptable. Shredder is capable to outsmart and turtles can lose in fights. The episode concluded on that head of Channel 6 Burne Thompson does accusing tirade to turtles that they social threat anyway despite on their actions what once again reminded left-wing media. Turtles got misguiding by that and accepted causing problems until wise Splinter returned them to truth. The next couple episodes kept that wonderful approach even with that turtles still disarmed and April lost trust to lead heroes by believing that they became criminals. It’s after 171 episodes! And probability of supernatural and high technologies. What a person! It reveals that April is a bad reporter and have immature characteristics as can see. She didn’t change in that a global threat is evening story for her.

The fourth episode of season was roll back of writing weakness and return to tone destroyed the show. Police arrives on crime scene and despite on robbers they trust to listened news that turtles are criminals. Where is their professionalism? Mocking on show does coming back too and a comedian tone in the end as previously was. Friends can be shot and April runs with a camera and exclaims “This is news!” She still a person for kidnapping. I did same what was in doing a fast forward movement till final. I was stopping for see how April in seventh episode of the eighth season still hopes to make confident her incompetent boss on turtles who was witness of their activity and April’s news demonstrated heroism of mutants. Shredder with other villains didn’t change building, which turtles know from beginning and to where they come, disrupt another plan and leave in episode by episode.

View on this aspect in other show. Live-action TV series Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation had that thing in each episode what I disliked with additional female turtle.

Shredder escapes, turtles swear to catch him, but his base still is that one building. Turtles intention to find their main enemy will reveal in throwing him into cauldron with something unpleasant.

Season nine had a new wisher to conquer the world who is alien Lord Dregg with army of insects whom turtles will disarm instead kill while villain in wish to destroy enemies in often getting this opportunity like Shredder preferred to abduct somebody of them. A new member of turtle team is no less irritating human-being Carter. It would be a beautiful ending for show when Splinter says that considers turtles as equal to him if they really were and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles didn’t break on the third season what gave hard regret to characters I love.
