I don’t read ongoing series of comic books due to it’s model is intentionally on eternal orientation or until lost in demand. Nobody eventually dies there. If it happens – that character gets a way to come back. Neither I can expect good stories from there. Most reliance on comic books with projected limited issues while I never come to reading after learning. I prefer graphic novels and European comic literature where more serious and more soul. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin had that exclusive attention due to it’s vision of conclusion story by original authors Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird.
I couldn’t constantly be involved in one universe even for one decade like creators of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles who conception of The Last Ronin had even before of the first cartoon show. It’s a gritty, gruesome, bleeding story about the last survived turtle accepted a ronin path, which is complete centuries-old feud between clans. Michelangelo, who is that warrior, never gives of whom he was in past. He will never say a joke. It’s a matured filled of wisdom and dark warrior. I always had feeling and saw that he is special in quartet and I see here in The Last Ronin that his personality is precisely for such transformation.
Michelangelo’s loneliness without other turtles gives it’s unusual stance. Kevin Eastman, who of original writers solely implemented that draft, is merciless to appearing familiar characters in what I find common with him by that approach as in that he says new in known personages and gives wide disclosure for introduced. His story intrigues, gives disgust from turned upside-down New York and surprises. It’s filigree telling of nowadays and revealing of the past, which as everything is wishful to find out in beautifully vast the Turtle universe. The story mostly occurs in New York and involves high technologies but it always situates in original rites, traditions, clothes and worldview of personages. Eastman wrote a modern samurai tale. Everything was exciting and wonderful in this initially solid mighty drama until “epilogue” gave alarm of yellow “ongoing series” taste. Kevin Eastman announced in July 23 a continuity of The Last Ronin by that news I knew on initial comics. I more close in mind I wouldn’t like to read that. I don’t believe that characters were capable on it after happened.
