After almost two years, Guy Martin came with a new exciting adventure documentary which in this time in Vietnam and he decided to see that country on the fiftieth anniversary of the end of famous armed conflict there.
Another wonderful series, which contains two episodes, but a subject itself isn’t tantalizing and therefore I didn’t see a lot of fascinating in the most of time. A visiting of rice fields instilled a vibe of seeing a Vietnamese propaganda news, which reports on so-called achievement in that sphere. But Our Guy in Vietnam will have a fascinating, which in a second part of episode two disclosing why this developing in economy state can’t come to prosperity. You see a contrast from a country’s capital to outback where not so much progressed since a war. You watch on Vietnamese smiling for camera but you notice their savage road traffic and their reckless drivers.
Documentaries of Guy Martin were always objective and same toward here. A part about Vietnam War is attaching by describing both sides and that presented in incredible footages. But telling of history of Second Indochina War doesn’t mention that the North attacked the South and saying nothing about a shameful treaty of 1973 which was violated by commies – I see adding of these elements as needful in disclose of a true portrait. And said by Martin, which, certainly, his opinion, but he doesn’t know more details in claiming, “Vietnam won this war simple.” Also, a director shouldn’t do a frequent filming from above. Nevertheless, all these negative nuances don’t put an upset in the documentary.
