Combination of SP Media Group and Paramount’s label Republic Pictures is production of pure generic which made this reputation in very short times. Nevertheless, it can be that sometimes comes not uniform. Strangers didn’t self-expose in poor bad quality. Moreover, it interested in originality and attractiveness of plot conception. However, I couldn’t be confident by scrolling down uninspiring works have done by director Tony Dean Smith and scriptwriter Steven Paul while I didn’t reject on probability of exclusion.
It takes set in Bulgaria and everybody speaks English. Of course, since my visit of this country twenty-four years ago, maybe, something changed but I dare to assume that people still speak Bulgarian mostly. However, it isn’t intrusive and sorta acceptable. Maybe, it’s group of anonymous alcoholics was made specially for English-speaking expats and one character does repairing of cars for… no, it’s nonsense. Anyway, I could put away as well as believe in frivolous acts by personages as that mechanic had harsh argue with client, asked him to relax and moved to computer for choose flower in online shop or a hitman confessing in a third meeting on his occupation whom can describe as a reckless person and that can see by his saying of one phrase and later his acts will corroborate while that one, which is hardly, but let be is that a lead heroine with her personality sees her first killing as nothing unusual.
A film was almost entirely shot in Bulgaria while in scenes for presenting of streets of New York was made a standard technique in filming panorama and known buildings whereas premises still take in aforementioned Eastern Europe city and outside location is a familiar Nu Boyana Film set which can see in The Expendables 2 and Jolt. With the last two, too many citizens have Bulgarian faces and hearing speech gives respective accent and all killing, which hitman does, are almost people of that nationality. At least, political correctness’ clause was made logically by that we do not see non-white persons in Sofia.
A director and a cinematographer did fine and pretty shots were sometimes. A script was acceptable before conclusion in which a story lost ground. A protagonist put soporific in hitman’s toothpaste and wanted to reach killer’s target by a car but trapped in jam and decided to reach a potential victim by running. She came on place and they already were going to leave while a hired gun appeared in seconds after her what is not possible by counting time of his realizing, reaching and that was with his stance. I don’t believe that paranoid target forgot his revolver which he always grabbed and took every time when he assumed danger, because there wouldn’t be turning of events in wishful for authors’ way. As well as, why the killer doesn’t want to show plane tickets, which he kept actually what is one more poor aspiration to make drama. I did not see a point in his holding it in alongside with a pack of money, which main character will take symbolically. A revealed twist in the end is unacceptable: the killer arrived in Bulgaria on job but between that he made lengthy in time relationship with heroine with whom they had collaboration on liquidation a lot of other people.
Cast in professional and excellent performers. Sienna Guillory is magnificent actress, but she brings theater acting what means overperforming and her personage deprives of authenticity by that. Jamie Bamber was unconvincing a little what was in his first scenes but that’s all. Jon Voight is ecumenical thespian with no matter on screenplay. I love this great man! For acting, for many made astonishing films and for his open eyes and his speaking and pointing on reality. His presence in Strangers, as in any such movie, he does for earning money, which working them off as if it would a flick worthy for magnificent performance. I do not blame for his getting role in every SP Media Group and Republic Pictures what, I assume, thankfully to Steven Paul who is also a producer and has this credit here too (they collaborated in dozen projects.) because these movies are not propagandist and sir wouldn’t permit to sign up on such.
It could become an interesting but I can indicate on that Jon Voight’s personage has beautiful paintings, which many of them I would want to have it. That amazing of living and properly drawn ocean liked me too and I had the biggest attention to this one at first sight.
