Le jardinier (The Gardener)

Lukaschik Gleb

Director-scriptwriter David Charnon and actor Jean-Claude Van Damme reunited for another comedy after three years which plot sets in almost one location, a country house.

It assumed to be comic to present a martial arts legend as a gardener but, of course, his character has usual elite forces background. Van-Damme, as any performer, does brilliant acting but he almost doesn’t bring amusement. However, his storyline’s partner was played by Michael Youn who is a comedian performer and he wields in how to be funny.

A film ties fierce blood acts and humor in one and Charnon amazes in that he touches balance in that. The fighting scenes, in which JCVD is still top-notch, are phenomenal, exciting and inventive. And their grandiose has contribution of using of garden tools with which also succeeds to be a comedy. Personally, director does mesmerizing and creative approach with staging scenes by amazing in his acts. He often takes an air view in action but he doesn’t let to bore by this repeating. He knows how to narrate. And, of course, this excellent achievement also by cinematographer Thierry Arbogast.

An English translation of this French flick was one thing not in order. I had opportunity to see comparison with original version. An interpretation can destroy presentation of joke and make incorrect interpretation of phrase.

Everything was going well before passing of one hour. It was what happened with Cinderella after midnight. A movie derailed from a comedian ground mostly. Cruelty became out to place serious. That turned out with storyline. A script itself expired in strong in narrating and comedy and it was coming of far-fetching and unexplainable. Michael Youn stayed with his grimaces which couldn’t but be odd in these dozens of minutes. JCVD in monk clothe and his hearing of shooting makes to get an ultimate corroboration that nobody had at least an all right imagination anymore in anything. Eventually, The Gardener turns up as another unnoticeable film.
